Our installer profiles ( consequently our pre-built installers,deviate only a little from openSUSE’s JeOS / Minimal appliance profiles.As a result,one can manually configure a Vanilla openSUSE/SuSE SLES install to be the host OS to a rockstor rpm customisation.WarningFor advanced users onlyThis install method is predominantly for developers or advanced users and will likely require additional maintenance.It may also serve as an option where a SLES base is required.Please note our undesirable disabling of apparmor,we hope to resolve this shortfall in due time.Pull requests welcome.This procedure, not recommended or supported,constitutes adding the relevant Rockstor repositories to a dedicated vanilla openSUSE / SuSE SLES non transactional server install.The base OS version is assumed to be within our current profiles at:Installer Recipes.For recommended openSUSE versions of the host OS, see our downloads page.Procedure¶The relevant commands are as follows:First, disable apparmor.systemctl disable apparmorThen, ensure NetworkManager is installed and running.zypper install --no-recommends NetworkManagersystemctl disable wickedsystemctl enable --now NetworkManagerInstantiate the package repositories required by Rockstor (all are multi-arch).NoteIn the following replace all 15.X instances to match your installed OS version.zypper --non-interactive addrepo --refresh -p105 home_rockstorzypper --non-interactive addrepo --refresh -p97 home_rockstor_branches_Base_Systemrpm --import addrepo -f Rockstor-Testingzypper --non-interactive --gpg-auto-import-keys refreshFinally, install and enable/start Rockstor via it’s systemd services.NoteIn the following replace X.X.X-X with your preferred rockstor package version.For available rockstor package versions see our downloads page.The initial Stable rpm release, in each development phase, appears first at the end of the prior testing channel phase.Update channel selection can be modified, if required, via the Web-UI.zypper in --no-recommends rockstor-X.X.X-Xsystemctl enable --now rockstor-bootstrapWarningPlease note that Rockstor is not yet Multi-path controller compatible.

November 7, 2023, 7:34am 1 I am a new user, thank you very much for your effort, it seems to be a very clever system.I have over 30 TB of data shared through Windows Server, you might konw such data is not easy and fast to do backup or even restore in a short time.I was using DFS to sync data to another site, but it eats a lot of disk performance,I am looking for a NAS system, which have the shadow copy / repication feature that Truenas has, but TrueNAS is a little dazzle…After two days of trying out Rockstor with raid56, I was a little frustrated to find that it was no longer supported,So I want to ask, what’s the alternative file system? as it was a relatively good balance between performance and capacity and security.Will move to ZFS in the future? One for the main storageof configuration and event recording data, and another for the database used byZoneMinder to tie everything together. As databases can present a special workload to btrfs (the underliying filesystem used by Rockstor) this share has beenkept separate. This then affords the possibility of differing filesystemmaintenance schedules for the two shares and for additional performance tunningif that becomes necessary.
