Problem Attempt to do a live migration for AIX client fails. Symptom Validation phase completes OK, but the actual migration fails with:HSCLA283 The operation to prepare partition for migration failed.HSCLA273 The attempt to get the migration state of partition from the managed system has failed. Cause These errors are commonly indicative of an RMC issue for the partition name specified in the HSCLA errors. Environment Live Partition Mobility of AIX version 6.1, 7.1, and 7.2 via HMC. Diagnosing The Problem Partition mobility requires RMC communication between the HMC and the partitions (client and VIO servers) involved as noted in the Live Partition Mobility Setup Checklist.Verify the partition name specified in the HSCLA errors has a working RMC communication with the HMC. Note: RMC requires network connectivity for the given partition name. Resolving The Problem If the partition name is accessible via network, then check to see if RMC works. For details refer to Verifying RMC connections for the mobile partition. For additional information, see Troubleshooting the RMC connection between the logical partition and the HMC. If RMC problem continues, contact your local IBM SupportLine Representative for assistance. Getting started with PowerVM - IBM

Especially those working on projects requiring consistent environments across different machines. Its ability to simplify the creation, deployment, and sharing of development environments makes it a valuable tool for boosting productivity and collaboration. While the initial learning curve might seem daunting for some, the long-term benefits in terms of time savings and reduced compatibility issues make it a worthwhile investment for teams prioritizing efficiency and consistency. Show more Is OpenShift Virtualization a real shift in how we think about virtualization, or does it just virtualize our problems? User reviews suggest it's a mixed bag. A major strength is its tight integration with Kubernetes, creating a unified platform for managing both containers and VMs. This is a big deal for organizations looking to modernize their infrastructure without abandoning existing applications. Imagine seamlessly deploying a new microservice-based application alongside a legacy VM-based system, all managed from a single pane of glass. That's the promise of OpenShift Virtualization. However, this integration comes at a cost. Users highlight the steep learning curve and integration complexity as significant drawbacks. While OpenShift Virtualization offers a powerful toolkit, mastering it requires a significant investment in training and expertise. Additionally, the smaller third-party ecosystem compared to competitors like VMware might limit flexibility and choice. Overall, OpenShift Virtualization is best suited for organizations already invested in the Red Hat ecosystem and comfortable with Kubernetes. It offers a powerful path towards application modernization and hybrid cloud adoption, but be prepared for a challenging journey. Show more Is IBM PowerVM a powerhouse in the world of virtualization, or does it fall flat? User reviews from the last year paint a picture of a robust and reliable virtualization solution, particularly favored by large enterprises. Users consistently praise PowerVM for its exceptional performance, especially when handling demanding workloads, and its high scalability, allowing

Fixes and updates for VIOS have already moved to Fix Central. The IBM Support Portal will be your new starting point to find both support information as well as download support for VIOS.This site was sunset on March 31, 2011. The IBM Support Portal now provides access to both support information as well as to product updates and fixes for VIOS.Virtual I/O Server support in IBM Support Portal-->OverviewIf you are planning to update a version of VIOS lower than 2.1.0, you must first migrate your VIOS to VIOS version 2.1.0 using the Migration DVD. After the VIOS is at version 2.1.0, the Fix Pack can be applied to bring the VIOS to the latest level. While the above process is the most straightforward for most users, you should note that with this Fix Pack version, a single boot alternative to this two-step process is available to NIM users. NIM users can create a single, merged lpp_source by combining the contents of the Migration DVD with the contents of this Fix Pack update.A single, merged lpp_source is not supported for VIOS that use SDDPCM. However, if you use SDDPCM, you can still enable a single boot update by using the alternate method described at the following location: NoticesWhen upgrading to VIOS 2.2.0.10-FP-24 Fix Pack 24 enables Role Based Access Control (RBAC) roles and authorizations for the padmin user on the VIOS. Roles and authorizations are enabled immediately. If you upgrade to VIOS 2.2.0.10-FP-24 via the updateios command, the only two commands that you can run before the VIOS is rebooted are the shutdown and swrole commands. In some instances you will need to run the swrole - PAdmin command before you can reboot. See the following installation instructions. Fix Pack 24 (VIOS 2.2.0.10-FP-24) adds new features and capabilities to the VIOS. As a result of these additions, VIOS now requires a minimum space of 30GB in the rootvg volume group. Please ensure that your rootvg contains at least 30GB of available space before you attempt to install or upgrade to Fix Pack 24. If you use the IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation features provided by the VIOS, then before you install Fix Pack 24, please confirm that your switch is configured in LACP mode. Using link aggregation with a misconfigured switch may lead to loss of network connectivity after you install Fix Pack 24.General installation noteIf you see the following message during the installation of Fix Pack 24, please ignore it.*************************************************************************** MISSING REQUISITES: The following filesets are required by one or more of the selected filesets listed above. Steps There are three main ways to verify the integrity of an ESS VIOS downloaded image; Download the image by using Download Director on ESS. If no errors are generated, then the VIOS image is correct. For ISO images, you can use the following procedure;Check 1.Confirm the download size with the size reported on the download site.If the size does not match, you know its truncated and need to try again.Check 2.Mount the ISO.If the ISO does not mount, the ISO structure is corrupted and you need to try again.Check 3.Run script to verify each file:From ISO-mounted directory, run the following commands (save them in a shell script)cd ISO_mount_point/installp/ppcfor bff in *bff; doif ! restore -Tvqf “${bff}” >/dev/null 2>&1; thenecho “ERROR: unable to extract contents from the file: ${bff}” >&2break;fidoneIf you get an “ERROR: ...” message for a bff file, manually run the command:restore -Tvqf BFF_FILEto understand the error. But in general, you can extract the contents of each bff file without errors. For other images that are not ISO, such as .gz or .zip;Check 1.Confirm the download size with the size reported on the download site.If the size does not match, you know its truncated and need to try again.Check 2. List the table of contents of the file.If an error occurs while using the correct syntax for the type of file, then the filemay be truncated and try again.Check 3. Extract the contents of the files in a temporary directory Then, run the following commands:cd installp/ppcfor bff in *bff; doif ! restore -Tvqf “${bff}” >/dev/null 2>&1; thenecho “ERROR: unable to extract contents from the file: ${bff}” >&2break;fidoneIf you get an “ERROR: ...” message for a bff file, manually run the command:restore -Tvqf BFF_FILEto understand the error. But in general, you can extract the contents of each bff file without errors.
