October 5, 2013, 1:08pm 1 A family member has a very sick laptop that will not allow any software to be installed and none of the Administrator features are available for use by an admin! We suspect they have a virus and need to run a suitable scan, but their AV has been disabled! So we want to run Avast from a USB memory stick without actually installing it onto the laptop (it won’t allow the install!). I’ve downloaded the latest version from Safer Networking ready to use.Is it possible to set up Avast to run from a USB stick? If so, how do I set it up on an available 512 Mb stick? Are there any perceived problems running it that way?We can’t run a ‘remote’ scan using one of the web-based scanners, the ADSL is very slow and has very limited download allowance. Thanks for your help. #1 Hi, and thanks in advance for your advice.I couldn't run aswmbr, so no log of that attached. The computer was running Microsoft Security Essentials, but that has been disabled by the virus. There are multiple files being created under *username*/appdata/LocalLow/ . Can't run malwarebytes, or malwarebytes anti-rootkit, or Avast installer, or Eset installer, or Eset online scanner, or ASWMBR.Has multiple instances of Vrtpbhil.exe running , but not when in safe mode.Cheers,David AdwCleaner[R1].txt 1.1 KB · Views: 60 FRST.txt 36.4 KB · Views: 113 Addition.txt 28.6 KB · Views: 79 #2 Hello,They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you. Before we start please read and note the following:At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications.
