English architect, responsible for the recreation of 52 London churches after the Great Fire of London in 1666, with St Paul’s Cathedral being his masterpiece Otherwise, below you can find three not church-like reasons for a visit.Firstly, the archway of this church (visible today) was the extension of the historic Old London Bridge. It was used for centuries as a pedestrian entrance to London (the bridge was located roughly 30 meters to the east of its current location). Secondly, the church holds a 2000-year-old piece of wood remembering the Roman times and potentially the very first London Bridge. And some stone remains of old medieval London Bridge. The third and the main reason you should definitely see this church is the 20ft-long detailed model of the 13th-century version of Old London Bridge displayed inside the church. Photography: Zuzanna/WalkMeBlog And even if you decide not to include this gem on your trip to London, perhaps you will enjoy seeing the church online. The website offers a free walk around this symbolic structure from the comfort of your chair, wherever you are. Kind of cool, too. 5. Photography: Zuzanna/WalkMeBlog For about 18 centuries, the place where the current London Bridge sits (more or less) was the only place in London where people could cross the Thames on foot (pretty special, if you ask me!).But...The London Bridge we can see today is one of the newest bridges in London (it was built in 1973), and it should be called London Bridge (at least!) 1.10.Yea, that's right. They were many London Bridges before. The first one (and pretty important) was built by the Romans 2000 years ago and gave life to London. Many bridges later (around 1211), Londoners had built something in the shape of Ponte Vecchio in Florence. The wound copper wire inside makes them worth money in scrap, so check for the current prices. When they are no longer of use, they should be brought to your local scrap metal yard or auto recycler to be scrapped.Do All Scrap Yards Buy/Take Alternators For Scrap? Not all scrap yards accept alternators so be sure to check with your yard before you go. If it’s very busy and you only have a day in Bruges, then just admire the beautiful building from the outside and move on.Basilica of the Holy Blood8. Blinde EzelstraatAs you leave Burg Square, walk under the arch on the left side of the City Hall building. This tiny passageway is one of the most beautiful little streets of Bruges. It’s called Blinde-Ezelstraat (the blind donkey street) and brings you in the direction of the earlier-mentioned Huidenvettersplein, Rozenhoedkaai, and Vismarkt. Don’t forget to look backward as you walk through this narrow street. It’s stunningly beautiful. Although… it’s often so busy that it’s difficult to appreciate it. So if you are staying in Bruges for a night, you may want to come back here in the evening when the day tourists have left.Interesting to know: There are several legends about how the street got its name. One of them goes back to the 14th century and a fight between the people from Ghent and Bruges. However, it’s quite a long and very dark story so I’ll spare you the details… Another legend says that there was an Inn called ‘in de Blinde Ezel’ at this place. Its name came from the nearby market (now Vismarkt) with donkey-powered mills. Blinkers were used to cover the eyes of the donkeys so that they wouldn’t get dizzy from all the turning the whole day long. Thus the name – the blind donkey.Blinde Ezelstraat9. St. Boniface BridgeThe Bridge of St. Boniface (Bonifaciusbrug) is one of the most photogenic bridges in Bruges. This place is absolutely not to be missed! Make sure to cross this tiny bridge over the Reie Canal and admire it from both sides. If you come from the east, you have a stunning view of the Church of Our Lady and the buildings of Gruuthusemuseum. Looking from the other side of the bridge, you can see some really nice old buildings lining the canal.Interesting to know: Many people (including some local guides) mistakenly think that Boniface Bridge is the oldest bridge in Bruges. And indeed, it looks very ‘medieval’. In reality, it’s one of the youngest bridges in the city, built in 1910. In fact, many buildings in the city date from the 18th-19th centuries and aren’t nearly as old as you’d think. On the western side of the bridge, on the facade of the Gruuthuse Museum, you can see a tiny little window. It’s supposedly the smallest window in Bruges and the smallest Gothic window in Europe.Bonifaciusbrug (St Boniface Bridge)10. Church of Our LadyThe Church of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk) is a must for art lovers. This church houses impressive crypts and tombs dating from the 13th-16th centuries and countless paintings. But the
