Thanks for downloading DNS Benchmark Download of DNS Benchmark will start in 5 seconds... Problems with the download? Please restart the download. DNS Benchmark File Name: DNSBench.exe File Size: 159.03 KB Date Added: May 25, 2022 Why a DNS Benchmark?People use alphabetic domain names (www.grc.com), but Internet data packets require numerical Internet IP addresses (4.79.142.202). So the first step required before anything can be done on the Internet is to lookup the site's or service's domain name to determine its associated Internet IP address.Since nothing can happen until IP addresses are known, the use of slow, overloaded or unreliable DNS servers will get in the way, noticeably slowing down virtually all of your use of the Internet.Unless you have taken over manual control of the DNS servers your system is using (which, as you'll see, is not difficult to do), your system will be using the DNS servers that were automatically assigned by your Internet connection provider (your ISP). Since they are likely located close to you on the Internet (since they are provided by your own ISP) they may already be the fastest DNS servers available to you. But they might be in the wrong order (the second one being faster than the first one, and that matters) or, who knows? Many people have discovered that their own ISP's DNS servers are slower than other publicly available alternatives on the Internet, which are faster and/or more reliable. This DNS Benchmark will give you visibility into what's going on with your. Alternate DNS is an affordable, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider. How does Alternate DNS block ads? Unlike Connection provider (your ISP). This DNS Benchmark will give you visibility into what's going on with your system's currently assigned DNS servers by automatically comparing their performance with many well known publicly available alternatives. What is GRC's DNS Benchmark?GRC's DNS Benchmark performs a detailed analysis and comparison of the operational performance and reliability of any set of up to 200 DNS nameservers (sometimes also called resolvers) at once. When the Benchmark is started in its default configuration, it identifies all DNS nameservers the user's system is currently configured to use and adds them to its built-in list of publicly available “alternative” nameservers. Each DNS nameserver in the benchmark list is carefully “characterized” to determine its suitability — to you — for your use as a DNS resolver. This characterization includes testing each nameserver for its “redirection” behavior: whether it returns an error for a bad domain request, or redirects a user's web browser to a commercial marketing-oriented page. While such behavior may be acceptable to some users, others may find this objectionable. The point made above about the suitability — to you — of candidate nameservers is a crucial one, since everything is about where you are located relative to the nameservers being tested. You might see someone talking about how fast some specific DNS nameservers are for them, but unless you share their

Customers are advised to take the following preventive steps:Apply Security Updates: Regularly update operating systems and software to the latest versions. Check the Microsoft Security Update Guide for specific instructions.Adopt Stronger Authentication Mechanisms: Avoid relying solely on IP addresses or DNS names for trust mechanisms. Instead, use secure alternatives such as, Multifactor authentication (MFA), Cryptographic tokens for identity validation, Mutual TLS for secure connections.Monitor Networks for Anomalies: Set up intrusion detection systems (IDS) to identify spoofed packets or unusual DNS behavior.Harden DNS Infrastructure: Implement DNSSEC to mitigate DNS spoofing risks.Enable Logging: Maintain detailed logs of authentication attempts for forensic analysis in case of exploitation attempts.“Microsoft has fully mitigated this vulnerability. Sep 6, 2016 5:47 PM in response to Pirho If you explain your aim we may be able to suggest alternatives, such as setting up your own wifi router with custom DNS entries to redirect to local network addresses. You could also use a custom DNS server on the internet too if you need to redirect for whatever reason but you are giving us so little info that it makes it impossible to know what may help & what will fail. Aug 28, 2017 10:02 PM in response to Drew Reece I live in PRChina. The government does poison DNS as the way to "block"sites. I've access to the real international DNS etc hosts info... And need to reference it for access to international sites. They redirect ALL DNS server requests, so that's not an option... On my Android device I have a hosts update app. Sep 7, 2017 9:20 AM in response to ParkerInChina If mapping specific hosts to specific IP's is your requirement you will need to use an external device such as a portable Wi-Fi router. iOS can be set to get DNS from the router and the router will need the custom hosts setting up. You can set any DNS server within iOS's network settings, so you could try setting that to the international servers. If a connection is being modified by the state/ an ISP to filter certain requests I doubt you will get around that - it is normally more than just using specific DNS. The best namebench alternatives are Dns Jumper, GRCs DNS Benchmark and DNS Easy Switcher. There are four alternatives to namebench on AlternativeTo.

There’s no shortage of DNS Server options out there, with Google DNS, OpenDNS, your own ISP’s, and the gazillion of others available to use. The question remains though, which of these DNS servers is going to be fastest for you? And how do you know which is fastest? That’s where NameBench comes in.NameBench is a free application that will run a set of benchmarks based on your web browsing history and tcpdump, and will report back the fastest domain name server(s) for you to use. In some cases, switching to the suggested domain name server can be a considerably speed increase, with noticeably faster page loads, making this a very worthwhile tool to try. It’ll run in Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux, but of course we’re focusing on the Mac here.Using NameBench to Find a Faster DNS ServerIt’s free, super easy to use, and only takes a moment to run, check it out for yourself:Get Namebench from the project home pageLaunch NameBench, enter your existing name servers (which is often just your wi-fi routers IP or firewall), then click the “Start Benchmark” button and let it runResults will come in fairly quickly and will look like this:Don’t be surprised if Google’s 8.8.8.8 public DNS server is the fastest, it’s reliably speedy for almost everywhere in the USA. Everything is benchmarked against your current DNS settings, and you’ll get a “percent faster” report telling you how much quicker the found alternatives are.If you find a faster DNS server available, and chances are good that you will, just pop them into your Network settings to see how they go… head over to  Apple menu > System Preference > Network > Advanced > DNS > and add your new servers. That’s all there is to it, enjoy your faster internet and web browsing. Pretty great, it works!
