I LOVE THE OLD TESTAMENT! I love that all the stories point us to Christ in some way. We are reminded of the covenants God made with His people. We learn that He is aware of each of us right where we are at, whether we are Hagars being cast out or Samuels alone in the night. He is there calling us by name. The Old Testament Doctrinal Mastery verses have been updated for this year. Instead of 25 verses there are only 24. When I taught seminary I used these posters and flashcards to help my students (and me!) learn the scripture verses inside and out. These posters are all 11 x 8.5 inches so they can easily be printed at home or taken to a local print shop. Each one contains a doctrinal mastery verse word for word with added graphics. When I taught seminary the kids liked to have all of the scripture mastery verses on one page for easy reference when we were playing games or I was asking doctrinal questions about them. This download has all the Old Testament doctrinal mastery verses in order going down the columns in a vertical page layout. This download has all the Old Testament doctrinal mastery verses in order going down the columns in a horizontall page layout. The next file has the doctrinal mastery verses four to a page to use as large flashcards or glue-ins to scriptures. Finally I have these smaller flashcards that are great for games in small groups. With this year's content, I really need the ability to scroll instead of having 2-3 short verses. Please consider these with the next update.Use to be so great. Now I can't select text in add your own content. Also, longer verses like JSH 1:15-20, or anything long enough to need scrolling downward, doesn't scroll. It's more like a screen shot than text. I can shrink it down to a 3 pt font almost, but difficult to read that small. Any text at a normal 8-12 pt font should be scrollable, if that's a word.😄 Thanks.17 people found this review helpfulI love this app. The only thing I'd like more is if "My Content" would be easier to add somehow (for example you can't highlight and add 2 verses that are not in order consecutively, such as verse 22 and 25) and if you could rearrange or even organize scriptures after you have added them to "My Content". But maybe this is the wrong app for what I have in mind and I should just stick to linking and adding notes to scriptures on Gospel Library. New Wine in Old Wineskins? In the metaphorical language of “New Wine in Old Wineskins,” the concept of trying to fit new and transformative ideas into outdated or rigid structures is a cautionary tale. Here are some ways modern Christians might inadvertently try to stick “new wine” in “old wineskins.”1. Traditionalism and Legalism. Christians often place too much power upon old traditions when new forms may be necessary, and God is asking us to adapt. Related, we try to earn our salvation through moralistic endeavors or act religiously in our own strength. We can’t do the Gospel in our own strength. We must rely upon the power of the Holy Spirit to follow God’s voice.2. Lack of Cultural Sensitivity: Modern Christianity often interacts with diverse cultures and worldviews. Trying to impose one cultural expression of faith onto another can hinder effective communication and collaboration, preventing the spread of the Gospel message.3. Selective Interpretation of Scripture: Adhering exclusively to certain portions of Scripture while ignoring or downplaying others is another way new wine can be constrained. This selective approach can limit the transformative potential of the Gospel.4. Doctrinal Rigidity. Refusing to engage in open and respectful theological dialogue can also lead to trying to fit new ideas within old doctrinal frameworks. Modern Christians might hold established doctrinal positions without considering relevant new insights or developments.5. Inflexible Worship Practice.: Worship styles and practices can become ossified, making it difficult to incorporate new expressions of worship that resonate with contemporary believers. Modern Christians may insist on traditional forms of worship without recognizing the potential for fresh and meaningful encounters with God.Let us praise God for the new wine of his kingly compassionate rule in our lives, our participation in the kingdom of heaven, and the new creation of a wonderful new covenant. Let us reject religion in our own strength and rest in his power and love to live the joy promised to Christ’s disciples.Photo Credit: © Getty Images/Ana Lopez FernandezBritt Mooney lives and tells great stories. To choose when the language itself, as it often does, permits more than one rendering. And when the language allows a choice the translator's theology, whether it be conservative or liberal, is bound to influence the choice. If the translator has no theology he is unqualified to make any choice, especially in a doctrinal passage, and to that extent is rendered incompetent no matter what his purely scientific linguistic talents and equipment may be.Again, a translator is not acting as an expositor, but unless he can grasp the meaning of the passage to be translated his knowledge of the language alone will not be sufficient to assure an acceptable rendering. It is in fact impossible for the translator completely to divorce either theology or exposition from his task. All he can hope is rigidly to hold each in the place of service as aids in producing an accurate rendering, always remembering that these aids indeed are often as necessary to sound translation of a passage as linguistic science is.Because of a lowered view of the reliability of the Massoretic Text of the Hebrew Bible and the fallacious assumption that an acceptable translation is possible purely on the basis of linguistic science, the translators of the Revised Standard Version represent a radical departure from the standard of doctrinal reliability set by the Authorized and American Standard Versions. In no phase of their work does this dangerous feature appear more plainly than in their rendering of pivotal passages of Messianic import scattered throughout the Old Testament. In some instances nothing more objectionable is involved than a toning down of a Messianic reference by rejecting the sound procedure of the A.V. in capitalizing such references, clearly attested by the sense of the passage or by New Testament fulfillment and quotation, as e.g. "holy one"Doctrine Covenants Doctrinal Mastery Cards
