Jon Porter is a reporter with five years of experience covering consumer tech releases, EU tech policy, online platforms, and mechanical keyboards.Firefox 95, the latest version of Mozilla’s browser that’s rolling out starting today, introduces a new security feature that’s designed to limit the damage that bugs and security vulnerabilities in its code can cause, Mozilla announced today. The feature, called RLBox, was developed with help from researchers at the University of California San Diego and the University of Texas, and it was originally released as a prototype last year. It’s coming to both the desktop and mobile versions of Firefox. At its core, RLBox is a sandboxing technology, which means that it’s effectively able to isolate code so that any security vulnerabilities it might contain can’t harm the overall system. Sandboxing is a widely used security method across the industry, and browsers already run web content in sandboxed processes to try to stop malicious or buggy sites from compromising the overall browser.Mozilla hopes other programs and browsers adopt the technologyRLBox differs from this traditional approach, however, and doesn’t have the same costs to performance and memory usage. This makes it possible to sandbox critical browser subcomponents like its spell checker, effectively allowing it to treat them as untrusted code while still running in the same process. This places limits on how code can run or which memory it can access. As of today’s release, Firefox is isolating five modules: its Graphite font rendering engine, Hunspell spell checker, Ogg multimedia container format, Expat XML parser, and Woff2 web font compression format. Mozilla says this means if bugs or vulnerabilities are discovered in one of these subcomponents, the Firefox team won’t need to scramble to stop them from compromising the entire browser. “Even a zero-day vulnerability in any of them should pose no

That is safe to run on untrusted websites. Why is java.applet.applet deprecated? There are a number of reasons why the `java.applet.Applet` class is deprecated. These include:Security: Applets are executed in a sandbox, which is a restricted environment that prevents them from accessing the local file system, the network, or other system resources. This makes it difficult to write applets that are safe to run on untrusted websites.Vulnerabilities: Applets have been the target of a number of security vulnerabilities over the years. These vulnerabilities have allowed attackers to exploit applets to steal user data, install malware, and take control of computers.Lack of support: Applets are no longer supported by major web browsers, such as Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. This means that applets will not work on these browsers. As a result of these factors, the `java.applet.Applet` class is no longer considered to be a secure or reliable way to distribute code. It is recommended that you use JavaScript instead of applets to add interactivity to your web pages. The `java.applet.Applet` class is a deprecated class in the Java programming language. It was originally introduced in Java 1.0 and was used to create applets, which are small programs that can be embedded in web pages. However, applets are no longer considered to be a secure or reliable way to distribute code. As a result, the `java.applet.Applet` class is deprecated and marked for removal. It is recommended that you use JavaScript instead of applets to add interactivity to your web pages. JavaScript is a client-side scripting language that runs in the web browser, so it does not need to be executed in a sandbox. This makes it much easier to write JavaScript code that is safe to run on untrusted websites.3. What are the alternatives to java.applet.applet?There are a number of alternatives to java.applet.applet, including:[Java Web Start]( Java Web Start is a technology that allows you to download and run Java applications from the web. An Accepted Solution is available for this post. I'm using Windows 7 PC for work and therefore can't download the desktop app. I have tried chrome, firefox and explorer. I have cleared the cache and the cookies on all three browsers. the web app looks like its loading that page, however, a pop-up comes up saying "Your request failed, please try again later" - click Ok and it attempts to reload the page. "waiting for web.vma.vzw.com..." then I get a page that says Error "nginx" This load error for the web app seems to recur pretty frequently about every 2 months or so. Remediation on my end never seems to help, it seems to need a fix on the VZW servers. An Accepted Solution is available for this post. Here is a number I was given to call: 866-221-4096. Going to guess that it says "Decompressing Download" underneath the progress bar once it goes into the stuck phase. If so, the problem isn't the download process, it's the browser trying to decompress the download after it finishes. Try, in this case, clicking the magnifying glass icon on the right side of the browser window to show the actual download file in the Finder. It will presumably look like a 92MB file with a .zip extension at the end. Double click on it and see if it decompresses--if so, the file was indeed fully downloaded and just failing to extract. If you get an error trying that, post what it is.Also, if Firefox is hanging on the download, try temporarily disabling the "block popup" feature--I believe the site is being aggressive enough in trying to open a new advertising window when you start the download that Firefox is blocking enough that it fails to start at all. I've seen it happen before.Alternately, try downloading Opera or Chrome and try one of those. #16 For future reference if someone stumbles upon this thread...
