At the time of specimen pickup, inform your professional service representative that you have a frozen specimen to be picked up. A separate frozen sample must be submitted for each test requiring a frozen specimen. A frozen specimen should be held in a freezer at 0°C to -20°C unless a specific test requires the specimen to be frozen at -70°C (dry ice).If you have after-hours pickup for frozen specimens, label the tube with a permanent marker. (Water-soluble markers may wash off with freezing and transport.) Place the tube(s) in a designated freezer. Prepare the silver gel packs that fit into the Frozen Specimen Keeper by making sure that they also are frozen. As late as possible before the lockbox is to be put out, place the frozen transport tube in the Frozen Specimen Keeper between the silver frozen gel packs. These containers can keep frozen specimens frozen, but they will not be able to freeze specimens at room temperature or refrigerated specimens. Refer to the Frozen Specimen Keeper instructions for use for further details.Put the Frozen Specimen Keeper containing the specimens in your lockbox according to the pictorial instructions provided (see link above). Your professional services representative will transfer the transport tube from the Frozen Specimen Keeper to dry ice for transport. The Frozen Specimen Keeper will be left in your lockbox for reuse. Specimens for multiple tests should be frozen into different transport tubes.Note: Some lock boxes may be too small to hold the Frozen Specimen Keeper. The original Transpak containers can be used for these lock boxes. Frozen Gel Packs. To ensure specimen integrity during warm weather, follow these Instructions for Use of frozen gel packs and specimen lockboxes.Gel-barrier Tubes. Gel-barrier (mottled red/gray, gold, or cherry red-top) tubes contain clot activator and gel for separating serum from cells. On this page you can download GEL-Link and install on Windows PC. 2025-03-27How to Analyze Electrophoresis Gels The UN‑SCAN‑IT gel software allows you to use your scanner like a gel densitometer to analyze a variety of electrophoresis gels. UN‑SCAN‑IT gel can be used for protein analysis, PCR detection, DNA gel sequencing, thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis and quantification, etc. Although there are many options and considerations associated with quantifying and analyzing electrophoresis gels, most of the basic steps remain the same. If you would like to try some of the gel analysis steps described on this page, you can download our free demo program at Basic Setup | How to Analyze a Gel The first step to analyze a gel is to obtain and load a standard image file (JPG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, PNG, etc.). The gel image file can come from a scanner, digital camera, converted PDF file, email, internet, etc. The UN‑SCAN‑IT gel software can accept a variety of image formats for gel quantification (see Figure 1). Figure 1. Load the gel image file. The next step to is to select the Gel Analysis Mode. These options allow you to choose between a variety of gel analysis modes which include Lane Analysis, Segment Analysis, and Dot Blot Analysis (see Figure 2). A descriptions of these options can be displayed by selecting the Help button from the Gel Analysis Mode screen. Figure 2. Select the Gel Analysis Mode. The Gel Analysis Options screen will appear next. This screen allows you to choose the options that best fit your gel analysis needs. These options include Background Correction, Optical Density Calculation, and Lane/Segment Drawing Method (see Figure 3). Details regarding these options can be displayed by selecting the Help button from the Gel Analysis Options screen. Figure 3. Select the Gel Analysis Options. Defining Lanes and Segments | How to Analyze a Gel After the Gel Analysis Options have been selected, your gel image will be displayed along with several buttons that can make drawing lanes/segments easier. Lane and segment boxes can be created by simply clicking and dragging the mouse within the main image to identify the region of interest (see Figure 4). Figure 4. Define the Lanes/Segments of Interest. In order to obtain optimal quantification, the boxes should generally be drawn large enough to include the entire region of interest for each band. Once all of the lanes/segments have been properly defined, select the Analyze button located in the lower right

Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline)3. KY Jelly4. Bio Oil5. Aloe Vera6. Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil7. Baby Oil8. Coconut Oil9. Moisturizers and Creams10. Hand SanitizerConsiderations for safe and effective monitoringWord from SonoHealthFetal Doppler has become a popular method for expectant parents to bond with their unborn baby and monitor fetal heart rate at home. However, conducting such at-home examinations requires doppler gel to ensure clear and accurate readings. Yet, situations may arise where ultrasound gel is unavailable. In such cases, exploring alternative options becomes essential. This article explores alternative solutions for fetal doppler monitoring at home, considering both effectiveness and safety.Understanding the importance of doppler gelUltrasound gel plays a pivotal role during the monitoring of fetal heartbeat by facilitating sound wave transmission between the Doppler probe and the skin. This coupling enables the Doppler device to detect and amplify the fetal heartbeat, providing expectant parents with a tangible connection to their unborn baby’s health. Additionally, ultrasound gel helps eliminate air pockets and provides lubrication, ensuring smooth movement of the Doppler probe over the abdomen. Challenges of obtaining ultrasound gel for home useWhile ultrasound gel is readily available in medical settings, obtaining it for home use can pose challenges. Expectant parents may find it inconvenient or costly to purchase small quantities of doppler gel for occasional use. Moreover, accessibility issues may arise, particularly in rural or remote areas with inaccessible medical supplies. In such scenarios, exploring alternative options becomes necessary.Practical at-home alternatives to fetal doppler gelWhen doppler gel is unavailable, you can consider several alternatives for home use. While these alternatives may not replicate the performance of commercial ultrasound gel entirely, they can provide adequate coupling between the doppler probe and the skin for primary monitoring purposes. Here are some practical alternatives:1. Aloe Vera GelAloe vera gel, known for its soothing and hydrating properties, can be an effective substitute for doppler gel during fetal Doppler monitoring. Its viscous consistency facilitates sound wave transmission and provides lubrication, enhancing the performance of baby heart monitor. Aloe vera gel is widely available in most households, making it a convenient option for at-home use.2. Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline)Petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, is another viable alternative for at-home fetal doppler when ultrasound gel is unavailable. While it may not provide the same level of sound wave transmission as commercial ultrasound gel, petroleum jelly can help eliminate air pockets and provide lubrication, improving the accuracy of doppler readings. Using a small amount of petroleum jelly is important to prevent interference with doppler probe movement.3. KY JellyKY Jelly, a water-based lubricant, closely mimics the consistency of ultrasound gel,
2025-03-30Moment’s notice. Advion typically caters to the professional pest-control industry, so its products are not often found in brick-and-mortar stores. Also, because this is a pro brand, these baits are available only in larger quantities. The smallest bag contains 12 baits, versus Terro’s six; the price per bait is roughly the same between the two.AdvertisementSKIP ADVERTISEMENTAlso great: Terro T502 Roach Bait Gel Photo: Connie ParkAlso greatIf you’ve tried bait stations for a couple of weeks and they’re not doing the trick, we recommend moving to a gel or powder. Gels can be dispensed directly into the crack or crevice where roaches are living; this targeted approach makes gels one of the preferred methods of professional contractors. The gel is sticky enough to be stuck to a vertical surface, which is an advantage a gel has over powders. Many gels are equally effective, but we found that the Terro T502 Roach Bait Gel was the easiest to use. It’s all about the applicator. Most roach gels come in a giant plastic syringe, but Terro’s T502 gel is very different. It comes in a can, with a large side lever that dispenses the gel. Additionally, the nozzle twists to adjust the rate of flow. Of the gels we tested, the Terro gel was clearly the easiest to dispense. It’s especially handy if you’re using it at arm’s length, possibly in a tight spot. The downside is that it’s just messier than a bait station. Like all gels, the Terro gel remains exposed after application, so it can be goopy if you brush up against it. And having it out in the open might not be best for homes with pets or small kids. Also great: Combat Max Roach Killing Gel Photo: Michael MurtaughAlso greatIf the Terro gel is not available, we also like Combat Max
