In the past few days I attempted to set up the "Scan from Printer to Computer" capability. It gave me an error message that although the printer was connected to the computer, HP Smart did not have the correct software to scan my document. that's ok with me. But when I went back to scan from the Printer Assistant on my computer, it would not open and let me do so. Tried all the on-line help but the scanner just wouldn't work. The 'Scan a Document or Photo' button on the HP Printer Assistant didn't work and the printer would not scan from the menu on it's own interface.Tried everything and all the HP doctor stuff. Took 4 hours yesterday and 4 hrs again today.See the first post Scanning/Faxing and Copying section about Windows 11 problems. The guidance from HP was to pull the power cable with the printer still on. Then press and hold power button to fully clear any stored energy in the system. Pulled the power cable, waited 2-3 mins, pressed Power button for a minute and plugged the printer direct to the wall outlet (it was in an extension). Reinstalled the basic driver software from Print/Scan Doctor and ... it works. Just printed and scanned ok. Couldn't get Smart Scan app to work though. It installs but won't boot. The start screen comes on for a few seconds then just goes off again. So now have 'HP Envy 5540 series : HP Printer Assistant' working.
