When doing normal PC usage or when at idle, the HDD temperature is around 41-43C. However, when I am playing games at 100% load, the temperature can reach 49-50C. This is because the HDD is beside my GPU. My ambient temp is usually 29-33C since I live on the equator. My question is, is this acceptable temperatures for the HDD, or dangerous? Most of the time I get past the day without an issue, but it's always sitting there staring at me planning its next crash.... Issue has been that all my screens will black out with mouse/keyboard/audio still working. I've tried to revive everything by redoing monitor hook-ups and power cycling the monitors. Just plan out appears like the video card just stopped working and enough is still there that the operating system doesn't crash. Spent a few hundred bucks trying to fix the problem. New PSU, new power lines (not y-splitter), replaced my riser cable (ThermalTake). I've tried under and overclocking as well. Trying to see if there was some happy medium. Completely random when it happens but it does happen when something is using the GPU. System itself is running great stats wise. GPU never crosses 50C even in games. Memory in a very similar place within ICX. Now when I bring things back to life, there are other complications and confusing things going on. 1. USB first off doesn't like the unplanned shutdowns so I have complications with unrecognized devices, but that is very specific to the reboot being forced..2. Sometimes the screen comes up black with 7 green pixels in the bottom left corner of the display. Very specific. Always the same artifacts when it's in this state.3. Sometimes boots normally. When it does the X1 app has throttled the entire GPU to 23%/65C power even if I have a load from last known configured in the console. I have just uploaded SIV V4.37 Beta-39 which implements my solution.Please will you try the SIV V4.36 release and confirm that has the same issue and then the Beta to see if it's resolved. Wow, I'm really impressed with your work.Running v4.36, and yep, I can confirm it's polling the GPU -- I see the NVIDIA system tray icon blinking on/off every second -- and I've now moved from 50C to 60C....gonna try the beta next...OK, ran the beta and the NVIDIA tray icon stays off. Indeed, when I pulled up the GPU info (in SIV) the light turned on and remained on, and the CPU immediately climbed back up to 60C. Closing the GPU info window returned the GPU to the off state.RE: your question about power usage, refer back up to the OP and his screen shots. Temps shown are with side panel removed.Thanks View media item" href=" target="_blank"> Screen Shot 2020-07-30 at 10.08.32 PM.png 123 KB · Views: 3,027 Last edited: Jul 30, 2020 #2 The Mac Pro 4,1 and 5,1 default fan settings (like most Macs) are aiming for very silent operation but can result in (too) high Temps.The construction of the cMP concerning airflow is very well thought and efficient, and leaving the side panel off is not recommended and will effect negatively (mainly) the CPU compartment Temps.As you may have noticed the HDDs (which generate heat themselves too) Temps increase from bay1 going up to bay4.This is above all caused by the heat the GPU generates.The PSU fan blows air not only through the PSU , but through a few slots above the drive bays too.I'd recommend the following:-remove PCI slot covers from unused PCI slots and leave it open.-set the PCI fan depending on PCIE ambient (see screenshot)-set PSU depending on PSU supply 2 (see screenshot)To keep all Temps low in the CPU compartment i'd recommend:-Intake and Boost A fan depending on NB diode (see screenshot)Other things to consider :-HDDs generate much more heat than SSDs-If possible (depending on the amount of PCIe cards and height of the GPU), you could move the GPU to slot2 instead of slot 1. Backdraw is to lose slot 3 ,if the GPU occupies 2 slots.This way there will be airflow underneath the GPU so it stays cooler.All fan setups are a bit personal as well, e.g. I prefer low Temps.You could test this setup and tweak it to your taste and workload, finding a balance between low Temps and fan noise... EDIT: This is a general recommendation without knowing any details about the hardware installed and the type of load.Finally de-dusting the cMP regularly is recommended and can result in significantly lower Temps as well...
