Forza Horizon 5 Review: The Best Open-World

Series. Yakuza KiwamiFor years, the Yakuza franchise has been somewhat of a best kept secret. Lately, however, these incredible games have gotten some well-deserved mainstream success. And, thanks to this success, these classic titles are finally, albeit slowly, making their way to PC with Yakuza Kiwami leading the charge. It’s a remake of the first Yakuza title, which was rolled out nearly 13 years ago in the US. With it, PC gamers can finally see how the franchise got its start, putting players in the shoes of Kazuma Kiryu as he battles his way through the Yakuza’s ranks. More than that, it’s a gripping mix of serious storytelling and silly moments – something that the Yakuza series would become famous for over the years. Horizon Zero DawnHorizon Zero Dawn may have started life as a Playstation exclusive when it came out in 2017. But, luckily for PC gamers and ray tracing enthusiasts, the AAA game from Guerilla Studios has been available on PC since August 2020.The game shares some basic features with other great open-world entries. You traverse through multiple different gorgeous environments over a large map with increasingly powerful enemies – though luckily, also with increasingly powerful weapons to take them down. And, as you do, you uncover an engrossing tale that takes tens of hours to complete. You play as Aloy, a hunter trying to uncover her own mysterious past in a post-apocalyptic world. While humanity struggles to survive as warring tribes and dangerous robot animals roam the countryside. And, as captivating as the story and environment is, a lot of the fun of the game comes from hunting these creatures. Each type of robot has different strengths and weaknesses, and you’ll have to adjust accordingly. Hacking and slashing won’t get you very far.If you enjoy stealth gameplay, planning a hunt, or a unique story and setting, you owe it to yourself to play Horizon Zero Dawn. Forza Horizon 4You might not quite get why Forza Horizon 4 is even on a list of the best open world games. After all, Forza is a racing series, not an open world game. However, you’d only be half right. Yes, it’s indeed a racing game, but the Forza Horizon series has always sat among the best open world games to date. And, Forza Horizon 4 takes that winning formula even further. Not only are all of the systems that were in place in 2016’s Forza Horizon 3 present here, but they’ve also been polished to craft one of the smoothest open world racing games we’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. The map is slightly smaller than the previous offering, but Forza Horizon 4’s world changes seasons every week, which changes how each track plays every time you play it (or, at least until you’ve played it on 4 separate weeks). Simply put, Forza Horizon 4 is one of the most fun racing games on the market. With all the added open world content – like collectible cars and randomly placed ramps

Just a couple days ago, Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios announced the critically acclaimed open-world racing game Forza Horizon 5 would make the jump to PS5 on April 25. Rather than excitement, its release date reveal was met with sighs as concerns over its pricing and early access preorder perk were heard around the world wide web. It seems those sighs were for naught, as it is currently topping the PlayStation Store’s preorder charts around the world.Despite pricing concerns, Forza Horizon 5 tops PS Store preorder chartsAs spotted by a ResetEra user, people seem very enthusiastic for Forza Horizon 5’s arrival on PS5. In the U.S., the lauded racing game is currently sitting at 3rd, 4th, and 12th for the best-selling preorders on the PS Store. What makes this pretty hilarious is the edition with five days early access, which was criticized by players, is the best seller among the three different versions. In other regions, it is currently holding the number one spot in Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, and Brazil. In the U.K., the Premium Edition is currently ranked 2nd just below the Bloodline Edition of WWE 2K25.A similar scenario occurred when Days Gone Remastered was revealed during last month’s PlayStation State of Play. It is pretty silly for Sony to remaster a game that launched just six years ago, which the platform’s audience seemed to echo those sentiments. However, days after its reveal, it was also in the top 10 best-selling preorders on the PS Store.Forza Horizon 5 is just one of many games that Microsoft has brought over from its catalog of Xbox games. However, unlike Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, or Hi-Fi Rush, the Forza franchise is considered one of the platforms tentpole franchises. Other big entries series like Halo and Gears of War have been rumored to come to Sony’s console platform for a while now, but have yet to be revealed.

Greatest arcade-driving games ever!Forza Horizon 5/Forza Horizon 4With Forza Horizon 5 now out in the wild, it would make sense to cast aside the previous entry into the series Forza Horizon 4, right? Well, not quite. Forza Horizon 5 is an absolutely stunning and well-rounded game, offering a bigger world and a fair bit more in terms of variety and progression systems, but in its current state, FH5 is hard to recommend. At the time of writing, players in FH5 are suffering from disconnects from online multiplayer, crashes, and a myriad of other issues that really detract from the overall experience, which is a shame as it is really bloody good. Give it another month or two, and I'm sure Playground Games will have ironed out all the kinks, and we'll all be tearing up Mexico once more. Until then, Forza Horizon 4 offers the full, uncompromised Forza experience. It still looks gorgeous on both consoles and PC, plus it includes nearly everything you'd get from playing Forza Horizon 5 without the issues. Sure, the North of England/Scotland location might not be as sexy as the sprawling, cactus-filled deserts of Mexico, but it is interesting enough with its ever-changing seasons that transform the world. Both games fall into a sort of a middle ground between arcade racer and sim racer, which is perfect for those looking for the best of both worlds — you get all of the fun of an arcade racer, with cars that can scream over vast jumps and drift around corners at break-neck speeds, and some of the more serious sim stuff, with vehicles that look, feel, and sound like their real-life counterparts, and just enough manual tuning options to keep those interested in that sort of thing happy. The Forza Horizon series is all about making racing fun, and with both FH4 and FH5 included with Xbox Game Pass, they are definitely worth exploring. Just maybe start with FH4 first and come back to FH5 in a month or two. Split/Second: VelocitySplit/Second: Velocity is a masterclass in using a relatively simple mechanic, pressing a button to destroy parts of the track, to create a truly awesome gaming experience. You are driving in an explosive TV show that pits racers in destructive tracks and sees who can cross the line first. As you drift, slipstream, or do pretty much anything else, you will build up a
