Stray, the recently released cyberpunk cat adventure from developer BlueTwelve Studio, has a stuttering problem on PC. The game is a console launch exclusive for PlayStation, and as you can read in our Stray review, it runs like a treat on consoles. PC is a different story, as shader complication causes stuttering throughout the experience.I downloaded and played through the first couple of hours of the game, testing various fixes along the way. Such an impressive level of polish is likely due to the restrictions placed on the game's platforming. Stray doesn't let players jump wherever and whenever they want, but instead relegates jumping to a contextual button press. This could be another point of contention with some players, as they may find Stray's platforming too restrictive. But the trade-off is the developers are able to keep the animations tight and better maintain the illusion of playing as a cat, whereas jumping everywhere could easily break that sense of immersion and lead to animation problems. Not only that, but this also gives platforming a puzzle-solving element, as players have to figure out exactly where they can jump to get through each area. It's true that some may be underwhelmed by how Stray handles its platforming and by how short it is, but these issues are easily overlooked because of the high quality found throughout the rest of the game. Stray is a genuinely unique gaming experience and is worth checking out for the cat alone. Stray looks great, plays great, and accomplishes exactly what it set out to do. It's a must-play, especially since it's available at a budget price and can be played in its entirety with a PS Plus Extra subscription. Stray launches July 19 for PC, PS4, and PS5. The city was also home to many unlicensed doctors and dentists who did not need to fear repercussions. Due to its unique circumstance, the city had its own unique culture. The difficult living conditions made the community active in helping each other, especially when it came to childcare. Rooftops were used often as gathering places to play or work. Due to its crime and isolation, much of the communities were self-governing and reflective of anarchic urbanism. Unsurprisingly, the city did not last due to its poor conditions, and the thousands of citizens were compensated and evicted from Kowloon by the government. Today, what was once Kowloon is now a city park. The skyscrapers were torn down and replaced with plants, statues, and paths. Little remains of what was there when the city stood. Since its destruction, Kowloon has been romanticized by dystopian fiction. Stray is far from the first piece of media to use Kowloon as a source of inspiration. Films like Brothers from the Walled City, Long Arm of the Law, Baraka, Re-cycle, Batman Begins, Crime Story, and Bloodsport all have scenes or totally take place in the city of Kowloon or a city/neighborhood based on its design. Other video games that have been inspired by Kowloon include Shenmue 2, Stranglehold, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Fear Effect. With the popularity of Stray, it is possible that more visions of Kowloon in the gaming world are in store for the future.
