ITunes, I got a pop up window saying that I had to install an update before my phone would connect to iTunes. I downloaded the update, had to quit iTunes, installed the update and now my iPhone is backing up and syncing with iTunes. It is still backing up as I am typing this, but I don’t foresee any problems.You do not have to be running Mojave. iTunes 12.8.2.3 supported iOS 12 just fine, by the way. I have been backing up and syncing my iOS devices for years and have never skipped a beat. Frankly, I’m surprised that Apple still allows OS X10.11.6 to sync, because they usually step up to the next Mac OS X version as a minimum requirement but they didn’t this time. My iPhone did show up in Photos with no problems importing photos.Tried everything suggested above but nothing worked to get iTunes to see my iPhone.As per MercatoWhite, no updates were showing for iTunes in the app store but I downloaded iTunes 12.8 and re-installed. During the reinstall with my iPhone usb connected, I was prompted to make a software update to correct a problem connecting my iPhone. The iTunes installation finished first then it took about 10 min for the software update to complete. Opened up iTunes and my iPhone was showing and working :) Also, the version of iTunes from About continues to show as 12.8.2.3. It looks like the trick may be to have your iPhone connected while updating iTunes so that you're prompted for the software update.Thanks again!! I spent most of the day going thru Discussions until I found this post. Followed your directions, got the same Ipad correction update, and finished installations. Well worth it I think Sep 24, 2009 4:52 AM in response to wehutty One thing that iTunes 9 broke, that hasn't been addressed in the 9.0.1 update is smart playlists not appearing in the desired sorting order on an iPhone when compared to their sorting order as they appears within iTunes: Example: You create a smart playlist of Podcasts with a playcount of 0 You sort your list of Podcasts in alphabetical order in iTunes by simply clicking on the "name" in the "name" column. - or - you click on "time" in the time column to sort your unplayed Podcasts so that the playlist sorts them by shortest first and so on. Here's the problem... In iTunes 8 the above synced playlist would appear identical on the iPhone as it did in iTunes. In other words, you could listen to your Podcast playlist in the order you desired / setup within iTunes. In iTunes 9, THIS HAS STOPPED WORKING! Is there some way to upgrade iTunes 9 be reverting back to iTunes 8? iTunes 8 just worked. In the end I had a long talk to the Apple helpdesk twice and they told me it wasn't possible. I had to update to Catalina or at least to Mojave. Old imac's it seems are not compatible with "newer" iphones (even my 8). System information and Photos, btw, see the iphone 8 just fine. Just not iTunes.My early 2011 MacBook, however, see's the iphone 8 just fine, even with a slightly older version of itunes (12.8.0.150).
