Moving forward, Steam will be changing a couple of things regarding this seasonal tradition.In a first for the platform, Steam has announced the dates of its next three major seasonal sales, instead of having surprise drops for these massive sales. The upcoming dates are: Autumn Sale: November 22 to November 29, 2022 Winter Sale: December 22, 2022, to January 5, 2023 Spring Sale: March 16 to March 23, 2023The Spring Sale will be making its debut next year and will replace the usual Lunar New Year sale, with Steam’s sales period moving forward covering the four major seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.This announcement was made through an official community post, where the platform states that the addition of a Spring Sale has been a popular request from the developers and publishers on Steam.The post goes on to explain how the Lunar New Year Sale was introduced in 2016 to celebrate the developers and gamers of Asia. The Steam Hardware and Software Survey indicates that Simplified Chinese is one of the dominant languages used on the storefront (and has been for some time), and while those results aren't scientifically precise—in October 2023, for instance, Simplified Chinese was the language of choice of nearly 46% of Steam users, while English accounted for just 26.4%, and that seems like the kind of variance that raises questions about methodology—there's no doubt that people whose primary language is Chinese make up a huge portion of Steam's user base.Steam's download stats page reinforces the scale of the Chinese market, revealing that China accounts for 28% of Steam's global traffic—more than a quarter of the world's usage concentrated in one single country. I elaborated on that a couple years back: pretty steadily stuck to their four sale + themed weekend sales approach since then; The fourth notable/reliable sale is Halloween, not Spring, which is a bit harder to intuitively remember [and it has traditionally been a weekend sale in duration, itself- historically, the only especially lengthy sales are Summer and Winter, though Autumn has been catching up to them as the years go on, and last year's Halloween sale was comparable].There've been a couple Lunar Sales in February [back in 2016 and the start of this year] comparable in length to the yearly Autumn Sale or lengthier 2017 Halloween Sale in duration, but they're still unreliable additions [and, unlike the Autumn/Exploration sale, have never been labeled as a 'Spring Sale'].Edit: I've updated the chart with the past two years of sales dates.
