2025-04-23Cant find the path specifiedThis is not 100% what might be the fix but I had the same problem because the parent folder contained a space "StepMania 5.3", and after I changed the folder name to just "StepMania" it worked. I just removed the space on my "Project Outfox" folder and it works!EDIT: I Redact my statement. it managed to create the ddr_groove_data.lua file but there are no groove radar values entered at all in the file so.First of all, thank you for sharing the Groove Radar generator! I used the tool to create estimated values for the official chart data spreadsheet project here: I noticed that the generator script fails when encountering a period before an equal sign in simfile BPM values. See the post here for screenshots of the generator output with and without the error: this something that can be fixed? (See the song Battle 2 in Mute Sims 7 for a good example of this practice in action.)• Re-cut the song in a DAW (digital audio workstation) to fix points of drift. (Reaper is a nice free cross-platform app for all your simfile audio needs!)- - - - - The +0.009 bias: Why it exists and how/when to use it - - - - -Since 2010, ITG simfile authors have been syncing their simfiles to a +9 ms bias. The reason for this is as follows:Long before StepMania 5 became the predominant software used for dance games, stock ITG was the universal standard. Stock ITG had a global offset of -0.012. Why Roxor chose to use this value is unclear, as it is objectively wrong. (The comment by GlobalOffsetSeconds in the default theme’s metrics.ini reads “to match ITG’s late arrows”; decreasing this value actually makes everything even later!) At the very least, this erroneous global offset was standard across all machines running stock ITG, meaning it was easy enough to account for.But instead of just adding 0.012 to a song’s offset to counteract ITG’s global offset, one must also account for the latency of sound reaching a player’s ear. WinDEU calculated this value based on the speed of sound and the average distance between the cabinet’s speakers and the player’s ears, and it’s approximately 3 ms. That 3 ms needs to be subtracted from our 12 ms correction for ITG’s incorrect global offset, leaving us with the +0.009 bias needed to sync the simfile for stock ITG.This standard unfortunately persists today as a result of years of simfile content being synced in this manner. Eventually, this archaic syncing standard should be abolished. In the meantime, releasing simfiles in both null sync and +0.009 sync versions is ideal. At minimum, it is recommended to specify which standard(s) simfiles are synced to when releasing them.- - - - - About BPMs - - - - -The easiest way to find a song’s bpm is by putting it into a DAW and adjusting the project tempo until all the beats in the song’s waveform are matching up with the beat/measure markers in the DAW. 2025-04-06How to start your own stepfile from scratch in Stepmania.First of all, you will need Stepmania. the download corresponding to the operating system you're running, install, and you're off.NOTE: I am using Stepmania 3.9 as it is considered the most stable version and is the most blatantly available. Feel free to use another version and just adjust the directions of this tutorial for it.Vista users: you may find it wise to install into the documents folder of the user you are currently running as. Multiple people have had problems with permissions, file virtualization, and whatever else by installing into the default "Program Files" directory, so do that at your own risk.Next, you will need a song. Stepmania supports OGG and MP3 audio formats. If you have anything else, convert to one of those. Free audio converters are easy to find on the web, just use Google. Once you have this, navigate to the Stepmania directory. The default directory isC:\Program Files\StepManiaEnter the "Program" directory and run the "smpackage" program. Select the bottom option, "Create Song". Navigate to the songs you want to step and select it. It should successfully create a folder for your song in the group directory "My Creations".
