The "idea of combos"as they function in SF2 wasn't actually a planned mechanic and was actually more of a "bug"...which is simply mind-boggling. This combo format would eventually developfurther into a more balanced system in later installments, but every Street Fighter game to date still utilizes Street Fighter 2's fundamental combo formula. The sales milestone comes 15 months after the fighting game went on sale in June 2023 across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.“Thank you for playing and for helping us reach this milestone!” Capcom said. “We hope you're excited for the future of SF6 as we intend to release more content and hold more events!”Capcom had said it aimed for Street Fighter 6 to outsell Street Fighter 5, targeting over 10 million copies sold over the course of its lifetime.“While we do not communicate specific figures for internal budgets, we look to outperform the title’s predecessor, Street Fighter 5, and are aiming for more than 10 million units over the life of the title,” Capcom said. Street Fighter 6, then, has a long way to go before it beats Street Fighter 5’s sales total.To put Street Fighter 6’s sales into context, 1993 SNES hit Street Fighter 2 Turbo sold 4.1 million copies, the seminal Street Fighter 2 sold 6.30 million, and Street Fighter 5 sold 7.60 million.Another interesting comparison is with fighting game rival Mortal Kombat 1, which has sold four million copies since going on sale in September 2023.
