It suggests that by dedicating attention and energy to a specific activity or goal, you increase the likelihood of achieving it and enhancing its presence in your life. This principle applies to various behaviors, including reading. When you track your reading—whether by noting down titles read in a reading log, maintaining a reading journal, or using a digital app to monitor progress—you inherently increase your focus on the activity of reading. This heightened focus can lead to a natural increase in the amount of reading you do. Essentially, tracking introduces a systematic method to reflect on what you are reading, how much, and how often, which can motivate you to read more. It also helps in setting clearer goals around reading, such as aiming to finish a certain number of books or exploring diverse genres, which can further amplify your engagement with reading.Research supports this idea by showing that when students track their reading habits, it correlates with higher academic achievement in reading subjects. The act of monitoring and reflecting on their reading likely motivates them to read more and with greater intent (source: Frontiers and Frontiers). Thus, by making reading a focused activity through tracking, you’re likely to enhance not only the frequency of your reading but also deepen your engagement with the material, ultimately making reading a more ingrained part of your daily routine. When you track the books you read, you will find that you read more. Explains that there is no better way to inform and expand your mind on a regular basis than to get into the habit of reading. Reading provides you with an opportunity to get into the best minds that are now or that have ever been in the world. Covey recommends starting with a goal of a book a month then a book every two weeks, then a book a week. One of the best ways to develop children’s reading skills is to encourage consistent reading. Nightly reading is a great habit to form from a very young age. Try to get younger children to make reading a part of their daily schedule even if it is only a few minutes a day. If they develop this habit when they are young they are more likely to continue reading when they are older. If you are using the reading logs in the classroom then you can get a large piece of construction paper and adhere each student’s log or put them on a bulletin board. This will help students read more since there will be healthy competition once everyone’s log is visible.Remember what you readWhen you keep track of the books, you read, you will remember what you read. I can’t tell you how many times I have started to read a book only to discover I had actually read it. My memory, unfortunately, isn’t what it used to be. Keep all old logs in a binder to have records of books read over time.Remember if you enjoyed the bookYou can add a rating system and rate each book from 1 to 5. This will help you when someone asks if you recommend a specific book. It will also probably increase the chance that you remember what you read.Understand your reading habitsWhen you track your reading habits over time you will notice how they evolve. Often, we don’t realize that most of the books we read are similar and we can broaden our horizons.Recognize your achievementReading many books is an achievement that you deserve to recognize. When your book log is long and you don’t keep a record of the books you read, you will not be able to create the list years from now.If you want to give kids motivation to read then you can give them a prize when they complete their book log.Encourage comprehension and reflectionIf you use our book review template and write a few sentences about each book, it will force you to think about the book and what it meant to you. How did it make you feel, and what did you get from it? These are things that we think about when we try to summarize. What is book tracking? Reading Journal Diary for Book Lovers: Track the Books You Read

Last Updated on January 10, 2024 by TaylorDid you know there’s a super easy way to enter to win free books to read? Goodreads giveaways include a mix of fiction and non-fiction books (including ARC books that haven’t been released yet).I’ve gotten plenty of free books this way, and it really doesn’t take much time to do it. Plus, I’ll share a tip below that allows you to track giveaways for books that are specifically on your TBR list! What are Goodreads giveaways?Goodreads giveaways are book giveaways that are run through the Goodreads website or Goodreads app. They include giveaways for both print books and Kindle/e-books.Publishers and authors use Goodreads giveaways as a way to promote their books. Essentially, they’re giving away free books in order to generate buzz (i.e. reviews, social sharing, etc.) for their books.First off, you need to be a Goodreads member to enter. Don’t worry, it’s free to join! Plus, there are lots of other reasons you should join Goodreads (in addition to the giveaways).Once you join, you can see all the current giveaways going on, with details about each book and when each giveaway ends. You can even sort by certain categories, like the most popular giveaways or giveaways that are ending soon. How do they work?Essentially, all you have to do is click a few buttons to enter each giveaway (including sharing your shipping address, so physical books can be mailed to you). You can enter as many giveaways at a time as you want.If you win, you’ll get an email notification. Then, once you receive the book, you just read it and (optionally) post a simple review to your Goodreads account. That’s it!One thing to keep in mind: some of the giveaways only include certain countries (i.e. U.S. only). Be sure to check that before entering! Here are all my favorite book apps for reading tracking, listening to audiobooks, and more!Start by searching through the giveaways for books you’re interested in reading. I like to sort by ‘Popular’ and/or filter by specific genres. You can also select if you’re looking for print books only, e-books only, or either.Next, click ‘Enter Giveaway’ on the giveaway you’d like to enter. Enter your shipping address (if it’s a physical book) and click the checkbox that says you have read and agree to the terms and conditions. Then, click the button that says ‘Enter Giveaway’. Easy peasy! How to Sign Up For Email Notifications & Track Giveaways Based on Your TBR ListIf you want to make things easy on yourself, I highly recommend signing up for Goodreads giveaway email notifications. That way, you don’t have to keep checking the open giveaways for books you want to read.First, make sure you’re adding. What is book tracking? Hi everyone! I get a lot of questions on teaching student to read and what books we chose. So today I’m sharing our 1st and 2nd Grade Reading List with you!Teaching children to read is one of the most important things you can do. Since students are still learning to read at this stage, I suggest doing a lot of fun read-a-loud books to get your students interested in reading. Once your student shows readiness, alternate reading pages with them. This can encourage them to read as well as give them a break every other page.I know a lot of students aren’t that keen on reading at this stage, and so reading together can help reduce frustration and stress for them. In the download I have suggested parent read-a-loud books as well as books that your student can read independently or aloud to you. Letting your students help pick which books they’re interested in reading can really go along way in encouraging them to love reading! It’s also a wonderful bonding time for you and your student, so make sure to leave plenty of reading time each day!–>>Download my 1st and 2nd Grade Reading List here!Just to make it a little easier to keep track of, you can download these free reading log printables here!Need help teaching your students to read?
