FOLEY — Silver handcuffs secured Kevon Washington’s wrists and ankles as he walked into a Benton County courtroom Monday morning.The 24-year-old was escorted by two deputies through a crowd of three people before taking his seat, awaiting the first hearing in a murder case. The Feb. 2 shooting in St. Cloud's east side killed Layson Davis and injured a 19-year-old St. Joseph man.After spending roughly three weeks on the run, Washington appeared before Judge Karl Schmidt wearing a blue jumpsuit with a white long-sleeve shirt underneath. County Attorney Kathleen Reuter told the judge authorities in Wausau, Wisconsin, arrested the St. Cloud man on Feb. 24. Wausau is a nearly four-hour drive from the 230 Second St. NE apartment building where the shooting took place.The Feb. 2 shooting took place after a suspected gun or drug deal took a turn. Reuter said two suspects allegedly entered the apartment through its front entrance to conduct the sale while others, including Washington, went through the back entryway to ambush in a robbery attempt.Another alleged shooter, Bernard Bowens, remains at large. A neighbor, watching through a peephole, allegedly witnessed the shooting.
